STEM Pathways is happy to partner with the BUild lab on Boston University's campus to engage with students from Boston and Lawrence Public Schools during the week of April 16 – 19, 2019. We will be showing them around synthetic biology lab spaces, give them an opportunity to engage with a variety of undergraduate researchers and present different avenues for getting involved in what you are passionate about while in college. Kudos to the Blake and the BUild Lab team for putting together the entire week's worth of programming for the students – we are glad to be a small part of it!!

Blake Sims, Program Director of Social Innovation for Innovate@BU and founder of Epiic Solutions is organizing an entrepreneurship program for 50 Boston/Lawrence high school students during their April break, April 16-19 at BU. She is seeking 15-20 mentors ($50/shiftt!) with experience in innovation and entrepreneurship that can leverage their knowledge and skills to support student teams as they develop their own startup ideas during their morning workshops.

What does mentor support mean?

Mentors leverage their personal experiences, knowledge and skills to positively impact student/team progress
Mentors work with 1-2 teams (groups of 5-6 students) to keep them on task and on track with their project
Mentors support their teams by asking questions and providing guidance, but avoids making decisions for the team
Mentors complete an “exit ticket” at the end of their shift that captures team progress and next steps (really helpful for the following day’s mentor!)

Commitment details:

Mentor shifts are Tuesday, April 16 - Friday, April 19 from 9a-12:30p
*Note that Wednesday, April 17th is a BU MONDAY class schedule (due to Marathon Monday on April 15)
Mentors can sign up for as many shifts as their schedule allows
Mentors are paid $50 per shift
Mentors agree to review a more detailed prep email sent 1-2 days before their shift and complete an "exit" ticket that summarizes team progress during each shift

Workshop locations:
